The Crypto.com Arena
in Los Angeles played host to the 65th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony on
February 5, 2023. It honoured the top performers, songs, and recordings from
the eligibility year, which spanned October 1, 2021, to September 30, 2022.
November 15, 2022 saw the announcement of the nominations. The 63rd and 64th
ceremonies were presented by South African comedian Trevor Noah, who served as
host once more this year.
The biggest night in
music made a comeback to Los Angeles on Sunday at Crypto.com Arena, with Trevor
Noah serving as host once more.
Lizzo, Bad Bunny,
Brandi Carlile, Harry Styles, and others performed at this year’s show.
The ceremony honoured
three “lost icons”: Takeoff, the Migos rapper who was shot and killed in
November, one of the glories of country music, who passed away in November, and
Christine McVie, the Fleetwood Mac vocalist who passed away in October.
With nine
nominations, Beyoncé is the most nominated artist this year. She announced her
2023 world tour last week.
The top nominees also
include Carlile (seven nominations), Adele (seven nominations), and Kendrick
Lamar (eight nominations each).
Viola Davis became
only the third Black woman in history to acquire the elusive and prestigious
EGOT status.
She won her first
Grammy for her reading of her biography “Finding Me” on audiobook.
As the first
transgender woman to get a Grammy in the best pop duo/group performance
category, Kim Petras created Grammy history.

78 per cent as per a survey by a US-based consulting firm 'Morning Consult.'

been pegged as the world’s most popular leader with an approval rating of 78
per cent as per a survey by a US-based consulting firm ‘Morning Consult.’ As
per the rating PM Modi’s ratings trump those of other leaders including US
President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime
Minister Rishi Sunak. The poll surveyed 22 global leaders for the ratings.
Neither Vladimir Putin nor Xi Jinping figured among the 22 popular leaders
globally.

PM Modi garnered 78
per cent of approval ratings, way ahead of US President Joe Biden, who received
40 per cent ratings. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, came
in second with 68 per cent ratings and Swiss President Alain Berset occupied
the third position with 62 per cent approval rating.
The list is updated
regularly with US President Joe Biden currently ranking number seven. Out of
the 22 countries, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, South Korean
President Yoon Seok-youl and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida ranked among
the last three in the list.
Ranks of Newcomers in
the Global Leader Approval Survey:
The newly elected
far-right leader Giorgia Meloni of Italy, the first female Prime Minister of
the country is placed in 6th place with 52 per cent ratings.
The survey also
featured Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in 4th place with a 58 per
cent approval rating.
Brazil’s newly
elected President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was placed at number 5 with 50 per
cent ratings, the Canadian Prime Minister was at number 9th position with 40
per cent approvals and UK’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was in 12th
position with 30 per cent approvals.

The “Global Leader
Approval” survey is based on data collected from January 26-31 this year, said
the Political Intelligence research firm which collated a seven-day moving
average of adult residents in each country, with sample sizes varying by
country.

Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters (MBIFL 2023).

has bagged the ‘Mathrubhumi Book of The Year’ award at the fourth edition of
Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters (MBIFL 2023). Her book
‘Wanderers, Kings and Merchants,’ portraying evolution of language as the
outcome of migrations, won the award that carries Rs two lakh as cash prize and
a sculpture. Nobel Laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah presented the award to Mohan at
the valedictory ceremony of the four-day MBIFL 2023.
The Trinidad-born
author, also a linguist who earned a PhD in linguistics from the University of
Michigan, USA, migrated to India and worked as a professor of Language Studies
at Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Millia University, New Delhi.

MBIFL 2023, also
known as ‘Ka’ in Malayalam, featured Nobel and Booker Prize winners and
Jnanpith awardees and others among over 400 names in creative fields. The
fourth edition of MBIFL under the theme “Shadows of history, Lights of the
future” makes a comeback at a fitting time as Mathrubhumi celebrates its
centenary year. At this time, this festival becomes a contemplative platform to
examine a journey emerging from the shadows and reaching the light. The award
includes a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh, a plaque and a citation.

Committee handling intelligence-related matters. The House Permanent Selection
Committee on Intelligence is charged with providing oversight of the country’s
intelligence activities, including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA),
office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), National Security Agency
(NSA) as well as the military intelligence programs.
Dr. Bera informed
that he is honored to be appointed by Leader Jeffries to serve on the House
Intelligence Committee which plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and
national security of the United States.
Dr. Ami Beri, a
six-time congressman represents the sixth Congressional District of California.
He has also served on
