Why In News

 

The Ministry of Tourism has identified four pilgrim centers for development in Karnataka. The Ministry has identified ‘Hampi’ and ‘Mysuru’ as destinations for development. 

 

Key Points

 

·         The Ministry of Tourism under its schemes of Swadesh Darshan’ and ‘National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) has identified four pilgrim centers for development.

 

·         They provide financial assistance to State Governments/UT Administrations etc. for the development of tourism infrastructure in the country.

 

·         The Ministry of Tourism has revamped its Swadesh Darshan scheme as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0) to develop sustainable and responsible tourism destinations.

 

·         Under SD2.0, the Ministry has identified ‘Hampi’ and ‘Mysuru’ as destinations for development.

·         Development of Maa Chamundeshwari Devi Temple, Mysuru, Karnataka

 

·         Sri Madhwa Vana, Kunjarugiri, Udupi District

 

·         Papnash Temple, Bidar District

 

·         Sri Renuka Yallamma Temple, Saudatti, Belagavi District

 

About PRASAD Scheme

 

·         The Government of India launched the PRASAD scheme in the year 2014-2015 under the Ministry of Tourism.

 

·         The full form of the PRASAD scheme is the ‘Pilgrimage Rejuvenation And Spiritual Augmentation Drive’.

 

·         This scheme focuses on developing and identifying pilgrimage sites across India for enriching the religious tourism experience.

 

·         It aims to integrate pilgrimage destinations in a prioritized, planned, and sustainable manner to provide a complete religious tourism experience. The growth of domestic tourism hugely depends on pilgrimage tourism.

 

·         For tapping the potential of pilgrimage tourism, there is a need for holistic development of the selected pilgrimage destinations by the government along with the cooperation of other stakeholders.

Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated the IFFCO Nano Urea Liquid Plants at Aonla and Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh.

 

 

Key Points

 

·         The Union Minister highlighted the benefits of Nano urea stating that it is the best green technology and provides solutions to pollution. It saves the soil and also increases productivity and hence is the best for the farmers.

 

·         The government’s Expert Committee has approved Nano DAP and it will also come to replace DAP soon.  He added that Nano-DAP will immensely benefit our farmers and it will be available at half the cost of DAP.

 

·         Dr. Mandaviya also underlined the efforts of the government in making Nano urea available to the farmers.

 

·         He also pointed out the challenges in bringing Nano urea ranging from getting approvals from various departments and convincing the farmers to tackle the conventional urea lobby.

 

·         Dr. Mandaviya also informed that it is an alternate fertilizer. The farmers for years used urea and DAP to increase productivity.

 

·         When urea is used, only 35% Nitrogen (Urea) gets used by the crop and the unused affects the soil.

 

·         The Union Minister appreciated the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has always worked towards increasing farmer income and their prosperity. He also insisted on natural farming, Biofertilizers, and alternate fertilizers.

 

·         He also commended PM’s role during COVID, the prices of fertilizers increased, and one Urea bag touched the Rs 4000 mark but PM ensured that the price of fertilizers was not increased.

Drone startup Garuda Aerospace has unveiled its solar-powered drone "SURAJ", designed specifically for surveillance operations, at Aero India 2023.

 

 

Key Points

 

·         Drone startup Garuda Aerospace has unveiled its solar-powered drone “SURAJ”, designed specifically for surveillance operations, at Aero India 2023.

 

·         SURAJ is an ISR (intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance) high-altitude drone designed specifically for surveillance operations, providing “real-time information to the high command and protecting jawans on the ground.” Principal Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister and former DRDO Chief Dr. Satheesh Reddy unveiled it.

 

·         Recently, Garuda Aerospace had raised USD 22 Million, the “largest ever” Series A funding in the drone sector.

 

Capability of SURAJ

 

·         The drone will carry a versatile payload of high-resolution zoom cameras with thermal imagery and foliage-penetrating lidar sensors with a maximum capacity of 10 kg.

 

·         This cutting-edge technology will capture, process, and transmit photos and videos in real-time, ensuring that the headquarters and base have access to vital information before planning strategic operations and terms, the start-up said.

 

·         It has an endurance of 12 hours and can fly at an altitude of 3000 ft.

 

·         Garuda Aerospace’s SURAJ drone, will help in providing military and security support with edge-cutting solutions like real-time monitoring. Garuda Aerospace is also being guided by NAL, DRDO and several other scientists on the development of the SURAJ drone.

 

·         The drone is all set to support various Indian and global giants namely the Indian Army, Navy, Airforce, BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, DRDO, MOD, and MHA, the company said in a release.

Writer Subhash Chandran’s novel Samudrashila has been chosen for the Akbar Kakkattil Award instituted by a trust in the memory of the short story writer and novelist from Kozhikode.

·         Writer Subhash Chandran’s novel Samudrashila has been chosen for the Akbar Kakkattil Award instituted by a trust in the memory of the short story writer and novelist from Kozhikode.

 

·         The novel was selected by a three-member jury from among the literary works published in the last five years.

 

·         The award consisting of a purse of Rs 50,000 and a sculpture will be presented to Mr. Subhash Chandran by writer M. Mukundan at an event on February 17.

 

·         M.K. Muneer, MLA, will deliver a commemorative lecture. This novel also won the M. Sukumaran Memorial Literary Award for the year 2021.
