National and international Current Affairs of 21st January 2024

1.           Chhattisgarh Scheme:  The Chhattisgarh state government launched a scheme called 'Mahtari Vandana Yojana 2024,' providing women with Rs 1,000 per month (total Rs 12,000 annually). Residents of Chhattisgarh are eligible, inspired by Madhya Pradesh's 'Ladli Brahmin Yojana.'

2.           16th Finance Commission: Three Joint Secretary-level posts were approved for the 16th Finance Commission by the Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi. Dr. Arvind Panagariya, former NITI Aayog Vice Chairman, leads this constitutional body.

3.           Naval Appointment: Rear Admiral Shantanu Jha is appointed Chief Staff Officer (Operations) at Eastern Naval Command, headquartered in Visakhapatnam.

4.           Rohit Sharma's Century:  Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored his fifth century in T20 International against Afghanistan, becoming the leading century-scorer. He hit 121 runs in 69 balls with 11 fours and 8 sixes.

5.           Lionel Messi's Award: Lionel Messi won the Best FIFA Men's Player Award for the third time in four years, surpassing Erling Holland and Kylian Mbappe.

6.           Indian Navy Decommissioning:  Indian Navy decommissioned Cheetah, Guldar, and Kumbhir ships after four decades of service, built in Poland and inducted in 1984, 1985, and 1986.

7.           Emmy Awards:  'The Bear' and 'Succession' each won six awards at the 75th Emmy Awards. 'Succession' received the Best Drama Series award.

8.           India-Thailand Maritime Exercise:  The first bilateral maritime exercise 'Ayutthaya' took place between Indian Navy and Royal Thai Navy, involving ships Kulish and IN LCU 56.

9.           Indian Army's Secure Mobile Ecosystem: The Indian Army developed 'SAMBHAV'—an indigenously secure mobile ecosystem on 5G technology, ensuring connectivity on the move.

10.       Prabha Atre's Passing: Renowned classical singer Prabha Atre, associated with 'Kirana Gharana,' passed away at 92, honored with several awards in her illustrious career.

11.       WEF Annual Meeting: 'Mahtari Vandana Yojana' was announced on the sidelines.

12.       SEBI Initiatives: Madhabi Puri Buch launched initiatives at SEBI's silver jubilee function.

13.       Airport Awards:  Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, and Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, jointly received the 'Best Airport of the Year' at the Wings India Awards 2024.

14.       Himachal Pradesh Campaign: Launched 'My School-My Pride' campaign under 'Apna Vidyalay' program.

15.       RBI Draft Framework: Released a draft framework for recognizing SROs in the FinTech sector.
