Healthcare has been one of the key focus areas of Modi government: Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia

Union Civil Aviation and Steel Minister Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia today said that Healthcare has been one of the key focus areas of Modi government. Addressing a press conference here, he said that with holistic approach to healthcare, the government is focussing on health as well as wellness, by eliminating the factors responsible for illness and making treatment of diseases inclusive. The amount of work which has been done in the health sector in India in the last 7-8 years has not been done in the last 70 years, he added.

Shri Scindia said that the last 8 years have been about augmenting health infrastructure, ensuring affordable and quality healthcare access to every Indian, and integrating technology with this sector. Healthcare sector in India is being improved and strengthened on various fronts viz. providing affordable treatment and medicines; modern healthcare facilities at village level; development of human resources; promotion of preventive healthcare; and use of technology to enhance access to healthcare.

On providing affordable treatment and medicines, Shri Scindia said that Modi government is ensuring access to quality essential health-care services and access to affordable medicines by putting the vision of 'Antyodaya' into action in healthcare. He said that Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) under Ayushman Bharat is world's largest health insurance scheme fully financed by the government. PM-JAY is covering around 10.74 crore poor and vulnerable families (approx. 50 crore beneficiaries) for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization. He said that number of Ayushman Cards generated is 17.6 crore, and over 28,800 Public and Private Hospitals have been empanelled. On Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PM BJP) scheme, he said that it is ensuring availability of over 1,800 affordable yet high-quality medicines in about 8,800 Jan Aushadhi pharmacy outlets are across India.

Shri Scindia said that Ayushman Bharat Health & Wellness Centres are being created to build sustainable primary health care with focus on wellness and the delivery of health services closer to the community. With better facilities for testing in our villages, diseases will be detected for timely treatment. He said that there were less than 400 medical colleges in the country before 2014 while more than 200 new medical colleges have been built in the country in the last eight years. Government of India has given boost to medical education to ensure that it is within reach of everyone. There were only seven AIIMS which were providing health services before 2014. Under Central Sector Scheme for setting up of new AIIMS, 22 AIIMS have been approved.

Accordingly, the central government has announced the Sahitya Akademi Award for literature on December 22. Writer M. Rajendran from Tamil Nadu has received this award for his novel ‘Kala Pani’. The awardee will be presented with a cash prize of one lakh rupees and a copper Shield. This ‘Kala Pani’ novel is a historical novel based on the war of Kalayarkovil or Kalayarkool.

 

Sahitya Akademi, announced its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 23 languages:

07 books of poetry,

06 of novel,

02 of short stories,

03 Play/Dramas,

02 Literary Criticism,

one each of Autobiographical Essays,

Collection of Articles and Literary History have won the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2022.

Award in Bengali language will be announced on a later date.

The Awards, recommended by distinguished Jury members in 23 Indian languages, were approved by the Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi, under the Chairmanship of Dr. Chandrashekhar Kambar, President, Sahitya Akademi.

 

The books were selected on the basis of recommendations made by a Jury of three members in the concerned languages in accordance with the procedure laid down for the purpose. According to the procedure, the Executive Board declared the Awards on the basis of unanimous selections made by the Jurors or selection made on the basis of majority vote. The Awards relate to books first published during the five years immediately preceding the year of Award (i.e. between 1 January 2016 and 31 December 2020).

 

The Award in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque, a shawl and an amount of Rs. 1,00,000/- towards cash content each will be presented to the awardees at the award.

National Farmers’ Day: December 23 is observed as Farmers’ Day or Kisan Diwas across India. Farmers are the backbone of our economy and to honour their hardship, this day was coined by the government of India in 2001. This day also marks the birth anniversary of the ‘Champion of Indian Peasants’ and the fifth Prime Minister of India, Chaudhary Charan Singh.

 

The day aims to spread awareness of the contributions of farmers to the socioeconomic development of the nation. It also recognises the efforts of the former Prime Minister who helped in uplifting the farmers in the country, introduced Debt Redemption Bill and Land Holding Act.

 

Significance

 

National Farmers Day or Kisan Diwas is the day marked every year to honor each and every farmer who is working continuously for the nation. Farmers are considered to be the backbone of the nation as without them none of us can survive. Agriculture is the basis for all our growth and consumption.

 

History

 

As mentioned above the history of the day is related to the birth anniversary of the fifth Prime Minister of the nation Choudhary Charan Singh.

 

He served the nation for a very short period from July 28, 1979 to January 14, 1980 but made marvelous contributions for the farmers in his short tenure.

 

He introduced and implemented various schemes for the betterment of farmers and wrote several books highlighting the problems faced by the farmers of the nation along with giving the solution of the same.

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, a former diplomat who served as Foreign Secretary, was inducted into Narendra Modi's cabinet as a Union Minister of External affairs in 2019.

 

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, a former diplomat who served as 31st Foreign Secretary of India between 28 January 2015 – 28 January 2018, was inducted into Narendra Modi’s cabinet as a Union Minister of External affairs in 2019. Prior to diving into Indian Political Sphere, he served as Indian Ambassador to the United States, China and the Czech Republic. In addition to this eminent portfolio, he also served as High Commissioner to Singapore (2007–09). Jaishankar also played a vital role in negotiating the Indo-US civilian nuclear agreement.

 

Dr. S.  Jaishankar’s Career:

 

Upon retirement from diplomacy, Jaishankar joined Tata Sons as President, Global Corporate Affairs.

 

2015: Jaishankar was appointed as Foreign Secretary of India on 29 January 2015.

 

2013: Jaishankar was appointed as India’s Ambassador to United States in September 2013. He took charge on 23 December 2013 succeeding Nirupama Rao.

 

2012 :Jaishankar became India’s longest-serving ambassador to China, with a four and a half-year term.

Jaishankar had a pivotal role in ending the Doklam crisis between India and China which took the two nations on a brink of war in Arunachal Pradesh. During his tenure in Beijing, Jaishankar helped India improve ties with China in trade, border and cultural relations.

 

He is the longest-serving Indian ambassador to China and played pivotal role in reinforcing economic, trade and cultural relations between the two countries.

 

He played a key role in negotiating the landmark India-US civil nuclear deal and other initiatives and worked with the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh closely.
