NITI Aayog to Hold Day-Long
Workshop on ‘Innovative Agriculture’ on 25 April
As part of the Azadi ka
Amrit Mahotsav, NITI Aayog is
organizing a day-long national workshop on ‘Innovative
Agriculture’ on 25 April, 2022.
Why is it
in news?
The
workshop is expected to bring together stakeholders working in the field of
innovative agriculture and natural-farming practices from India and abroad.
Deliberations will be held in key areas related to the promotion of natural
farming, its role in soil health restoration and climate change mitigation.
Highlights
· The
workshop will be addressed by Union Ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and
Parshottam Rupala, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, and NITI Aayog Vice
Chairman Dr Rajiv Kumar, Member (Agriculture) Dr Ramesh Chand, and CEO Amitabh
Kant.
· The Hon’ble Prime Minister
has emphasized the importance of natural farming on various occasions. Most
recently, during a national conclave on natural farming on 16December 2021, he
urged that natural farming be turned into a mass movement. The 2022–23 Budget
too announced the promotion of chemical-free natural farming throughout the
country, starting with fields within a 5-km wide corridor along the Ganga.
· Natural farming practices
are mostly in harmony with the principles of agro ecology advocated by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
It offers viable solutions to improve the livelihood of farmers while reducing
the environmental impact of chemical agriculture.

Ministry of Communications warns against fraudulent websites
India Post warns public
against fraudulent URLs/Websites claiming to provide subsidies/prizes through
certain surveys, quizzes
India
Post over the recent days has been observing various URLs/Websites getting
circulated in social media such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram and through
emails / SMS containing tiny URLs/ Short URLs, claiming to be providing
Government Subsidies through certain surveys, quizzes.
Why is it in news?
It
is to inform the citizens of the Country that India Post is not involved in any
such activities like announcing Subsidies, Bonus or Prizes based on Surveys
etc.
Highlights
· Public receiving such
notifications/messages /emails are requested not to believe or respond to such
fake and spurious messages or share any personal details.
· India Post though is taking
necessary action to prevent these URLs / links / Websites to be taken down
through various prevention mechanisms.
· It is also requested not
share any personally identifiable information such as date of birth, Account numbers,
mobile numbers, place of Birth & OTP etc.
· India Post and Fact Check
Unit of Press Information Bureau (PIB) have declared these URLs/Websites as
fake through social media.
· Public at large is once
again requested not to believe or respond to any fake / spurious messages /
communications / links.
CNS VISIT TO SEYCHELLES
CNS VISIT TO SEYCHELLES
Continuing
with his ongoing tour to the South West Indian Ocean Region, Admiral R Hari
Kumar, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Indian Navy, visited Seychelles from 21 to
23 Apr 22.
Why is it in news?
During
the visit, he called on HE MrWavelRamkalawan, Hon’ble President of the Republic
of Seychelles, HE MrSylvestreRadegonde, Hon’ble Minister for Foreign Affairs
and Tourism and Brigadier Michael Rosette, the Chief of Defence Force (CDF) of
the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF).
The
CNS presented a Navigation Chart of Port Victoria, prepared by the National
Hydrographic Office (NHO) of India, under the MoU on bilateral hydrographic
cooperation.
The
discussions covered a wide range of issues of mutual interest including
maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region and avenues to further strengthen
bilateral defence cooperation.
Highlights
· He also highlighted the
significance accorded by both countries to collaborative approach towards
maritime security in the Indian Ocean. In this context, CNS deeply appreciated
the active participation of Seychelles in the Goa Maritime Conclave, MILAN and
Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS). Earlier, CDF, Seychelles had attended
MILAN-22 at Visakhapatnam in February 2022.
· During the visits to
various SDF units and interactions with the leadership, the CNS reminisced his
own experiences as the then Naval Advisor to the Government of Seychelles in
2001-02 and complimented the SDF on the development of maritime capabilities as
well as their progressive outlook.
·
INS Sharda is currently in Seychelles after escorting
Coast Guard Ship Zoroaster, a vessel sourced from an Indian Shipyard (GRSE,
Kolkata) in 2021, back to Seychelles after her recent deployment to India for
participation in MILAN-22 and Guarantee Refit.
·
The
CDF expressed a very high regard for the professional refit of Zoroaster in
India and thanked the CNS for the excellent support extended by Indian
Navy. In addition, he gratefully acknowledged the prompt medical
evacuation of a crew member of Zoroaster on 14 Apr 22, from sea by an Indian
Navy helicopter.
· The interactions of the CNS
at Seychelles set in motion a promising trajectory of further growth in the
scale and scope of bilateral defence engagements, founded on the principles of
SAGAR (Security And Growth for All
in the Region) and the ‘Five S’ Vision of Sammaan (Respect)
– Samvaad (Dialogue) - Sahyog (Cooperation)
– Shanti (Peace) and Samriddhi (Prosperity)
articulated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.
· While, the CDF hosted the
CNS for a luncheon at SDF Headquarters, the SDF leadership attended a reception
onboard Indian Naval Ship Sharda, hosted jointly by Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag
(Retd), High Commissioner of India to Seychelles and the CNS.

Games LIVE on DD Sports
Introduced
in 2020, as part of Khelo India Games to revive sports culture in India, the
second edition of Khelo India University Games is being held from April 24 to
May 3, 2022 with the opening ceremony scheduled on April 24 and the closing
ceremony on May 3.
Why is it in news?
DD
Sports will be bringing the event live to TV and Mobile, starting from April
24, 2022. Aiming to build a framework for different sports in India, Khelo India University Games is a
national level multi-sports annual event, wherein athletes from different
sporting fields from across the country compete in different sporting events.
Highlights
· More than 3800 athletes
from over 175 Universities are expected to participate. Athletics, Volleyball,
Swimming, Basketball, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Kabaddi, Karate and Yogasana
will be broadcast live on DD Sports, while Judo, Tennis, Mallakhambh, Archery,
Fencing, Football, Table Tennis, Badminton, Hockey, Shooting and Boxing will be
broadcast in recorded format.
· Two indigenous disciplines
Yogasana and Mallakhambh have been introduced in this edition for the first
time. Thus, this edition of the games is being conducted in 20 disciplines as
opposed to 18 in the first edition.
· It is the largest
University level sports competition in the country intended to identify and
train athletes in the age group 18 to 25 years for the Olympics and the Asian
Games.
· The games will be broadcast
on DD Sports from 9 AM to 6 PM everyday on live/deferred live basis. This will
be followed by half-an-hour highlights/statistics based shows and another
half-an-hour show on the young talents to watch out for.
· Apart from the TV
broadcast, to bring multiple games live to the viewers, 4 live streams of DD
Sports will be available simultaneously on Prasar Bharati Sports YouTube
channel. The broadcast will be interspersed with English and Hindi commentary
and engaging graphics.
· The daily highlights and
important events will also be available on regional channels of Doordarshan.
The Opening and Closing ceremonies will be broadcast live on DD Sports and DD
National.
