- Indian Naval Ship (INS) Imphal recently made its inaugural port call at Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, ahead of the nation’s 57th National Day celebrations on March 12.
- About INS Imphal:
- INS Imphal, commissioned in December 2023, is the third ship in the Project 15B Visakhapatnam-class stealth-guided missile destroyers series. The other ships in the class include INS Visakhapatnam, INS Mormugao, and INS Surat.
- INS Imphal is a highly capable platform designed to perform a wide range of missions across the entire spectrum of maritime warfare. The Navy’s Warship Design Bureau designed the ship, while Mazagon Dock Ltd. (MDL) oversaw its construction. It is the first warship named after a city from India's Northeast, Imphal, which is the capital of Manipur. Moreover, it is the first naval warship to be commissioned with accommodations for women officers and sailors.
- Key Features:
- One of the largest destroyers built in India, INS Imphal spans an overall length of 164 meters and has a displacement of over 7500 tonnes.
- Speed: It can reach a maximum speed of 56 km/h.
- The ship is equipped for anti-submarine warfare operations.
- With 75% indigenous content, the destroyer includes the BrahMos medium-range surface-to-surface missile, torpedo tube launchers, a 76mm super rapid gun mount, and modern surveillance radar for gunnery systems.
- It is equipped with a Total Atmospheric Control System (TACS), offering protection against chemical, biological, and nuclear threats for the crew.
- The ship’s crest features the Kangla Palace on the left and ‘Kangla-Sa’ on the right. Kangla Palace is a historically significant site in Manipur, once the seat of the kingdom, while the ‘Kangla-Sa,’ a mythical figure with the body of a lion and the head of a dragon, symbolizes the protector of Manipur's people. ‘Kangla-Sa’ is also the state emblem of Manipur.
- A powerful eruption of the Volcán de Fuego in Guatemala recently shook the region, producing intense explosions, incandescent lava, and pyroclastic flows, putting nearby communities at significant risk.
- About Fuego Volcano:
- Volcán de Fuego, or "Volcano of Fire" in Spanish, is one of three prominent stratovolcanoes near Guatemala’s former capital, Antigua. Situated in the Pacific "Ring of Fire," Guatemala experiences frequent seismic and volcanic activity. Fuego is one of the most active volcanoes in Central America, with a long history of violent eruptions, dating back to the 16th century.
- In 2018, a catastrophic eruption resulted in the loss of 194 lives, with 234 people still missing. The volcano’s eruptive behavior is characterized by explosive eruptions, lava flows, and pyroclastic flows, which represent significant threats to the surrounding populations.
- The Pratibimb Module has resulted in the arrest of 6,046 individuals, the identification of 17,185 criminal linkages, and 36,296 requests for cyber investigation assistance, the Lok Sabha was recently informed.
- About Pratibimb Module:
- The Pratibimb Module is a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based software developed by the Union Home Ministry’s Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).
- Objective: The primary aim of this module is to assist law enforcement agencies, including state police forces, in mapping cybercriminals in real-time and dismantling their networks.
- Pratibimb offers the unique capability of projecting mobile numbers associated with cybercrimes across the entire nation on a GIS map. The software enables law enforcement personnel and service providers to view the actual locations of mobile numbers involved in criminal activities, enhancing the efficiency of investigations.
- Samanvaya Platform:
- The Samanvaya Platform was launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs as a coordination tool for law enforcement agencies to share and analyze cybercrime data. It offers valuable insights into interstate linkages of crimes and criminals involved in cybercrime cases across various states and union territories.
