  • Why in News?
    • The Supreme Court has ruled that judicial officers who possess a total experience of seven years—combining their time as advocates and in judicial service—are eligible for direct recruitment as District Judges.
  • Key Provisions:-
    • The Court clarified that Article 233 of the Constitution allows both advocates and serving judicial officers to be considered for appointment to the post of District Judge. By interpreting the provision broadly, it extended the requirement of seven years’ practice, originally applicable only to advocates, to include judicial officers with equivalent combined experience. Under Article 233, the appointment of District Judges in a state is made by the Governor, acting in consultation with the respective High Court. This judgment ensures a level playing field between advocates and judicial officers and reinforces the constitutional intent of maintaining both merit and experience in the selection of higher judicial officers within the state judiciary system.

  • Why in News?
    • Astronomers have recently identified a young rogue planet that is actively accreting material from its surrounding environment, offering rare insights into planetary formation outside traditional systems.
  • Key Provisions:-
    • A rogue planet is a planetary-mass object that has been ejected from its parent star system and now drifts freely through interstellar space without orbiting any star. Such planets are typically expelled during the turbulent early stages of planetary formation, though ejection can also occur later due to orbital instabilities or gravitational interactions.
    • Unlike regular planets that revolve around stars, rogue planets wander independently through the galaxy, absorbing radiation and material from the interstellar medium. Their study is of great scientific significance, as it helps astronomers unravel the processes of planet formation, the dynamics of solar systems, and the behavior of matter in the vast spaces between stars, deepening our understanding of the universe’s hidden architectures.
