  • Researchers Create First Laboratory Model of the "Black Hole Bomb," First Proposed by Yakov Zel’dovich
  • Scientists have successfully developed the first laboratory model of the "black hole bomb," a concept originally proposed by physicist Yakov Zel’dovich in 1971.
  • About the Black Hole Bomb
    • Concept: This idea involves harnessing the immense rotational energy of a spinning black hole's ergosphere (the area just outside the event horizon), where the rotation intensifies nearby particles.
    • Process: Zel’dovich proposed that a fast-rotating cylinder, when struck by waves, would amplify the waves as they reflected off the cylinder's surface.
    • Phenomenon: This effect, known as the Zel’dovich effect, occurs when a rotating object moves faster than the incoming waves, causing them to shift in frequency, much like the Doppler effect, but due to rotational motion.
