  • Experts Discuss Bone Health: Preventing Bone Loss Through Calcium, Exercise, and Healthy Habits in Recent Osteoporosis Webinar
  • Understanding Osteoporosis:
    • Osteoporosis is a condition that causes bones to become weak and fragile. It leads to bones becoming thinner and less dense than they should be, making them more susceptible to fractures.
    • Individuals with osteoporosis are at a much higher risk of breaking bones, but the condition often goes unnoticed until a fracture occurs.
    • Osteoporosis can affect any bone, but common sites for fractures include the:
      • Hips (hip fractures)
      • Wrists
      • Spine (vertebral fractures)
  • What Leads to Osteoporosis?
    • Bones are constantly being broken down and rebuilt. Osteoporosis develops when the body loses bone faster than it can replace it. This imbalance causes bones to become weak over time.
  • Symptoms of Osteoporosis:
    • Unlike many conditions, osteoporosis doesn’t show clear symptoms in its early stages, which is why it’s often referred to as a “silent disease.” The most obvious indicator is a bone fracture, often after a seemingly minor fall or accident.
    • Once osteoporosis has weakened the bones, additional symptoms may appear, including:
      • Back pain, often from a fractured or collapsed vertebra
      • Decreased height as bones shrink over time
      • A hunched posture
      • Unexpected bone fractures that occur with little or no impact
  • Treatment and Prevention:
    • Treating osteoporosis typically includes lifestyle changes, such as:
      • Improving diet and exercise habits
      • Taking calcium and vitamin D supplements
      • Using medications that help to strengthen bones
      • These strategies can help manage and prevent the progression of osteoporosis, ultimately improving bone health and reducing the risk of fractures.

  • About the Abdali Missile:
    • The Abdali (Hatf 2) is a short-range, road-mobile, solid-propellant ballistic missile developed by Pakistan’s Space Research Commission (SUPARCO). It is designed for rapid deployment in battlefield scenarios, offering quick reaction capabilities.
  • Key Features:
    • Dimensions and Weight: The missile is 6.5 meters long, 0.56 meters in diameter, and weighs 1,750 kg at launch.
    • Range: It has a range of 180-200 km, capable of carrying a warhead weighing between 250-450 kg.
    • Payload: The warhead is likely to contain high-explosive or submunition payloads.
    • Guidance and Accuracy: Equipped with an inertial guidance system, the Abdali missile has a Circular Error Probable (CEP) of 150 meters.
    • Engine: It uses a single-stage solid-propellant engine.
    • Mobility: The missile is launched from a road-mobile Transporter-Erector-Launcher (TEL) vehicle.
    • While the Abdali missile’s relatively small warhead limits its destructive potential, its accuracy makes it effective in targeting military installations, airfields, and critical infrastructure like power plants and industrial facilities.
