  • Why in News?
    • At the first annual Indian Knowledge System (IKS) conference, the Vice President emphasized that India's global ascent must be matched by the resurgence of its intellectual and cultural legacy.
  • About Indian Knowledge System (IKS):-
    • IKS refers to the rich and diverse body of traditional Indian knowledge developed over centuries in fields such as science, astronomy, medicine, performing arts, and philosophy. Ancient texts in Sanskrit, Pali, Tamil, and other languages hold immense insights, seen in systems like Ayurveda, Yoga, and the concept of zero. Institutions like Nalanda and Takshashila once drew scholars worldwide. However, colonial influence diminished the value of indigenous knowledge, replacing it with Western-centric paradigms. This marginalization, alongside limited scholarly engagement, threatens IKS today. Yet, India is reclaiming this heritage through initiatives like the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library, IKS Initiative, and legal frameworks. IKS also enhances India's soft power through cultural diplomacy, global academic presence, and heritage tourism—signaling a renewed global role rooted in its civilizational wisdom.

  • Why in News?
    • The Ministry of Defence has selected an Indian company to set up a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility for the S-400 air defence system, marking a significant step toward self-reliance in defence logistics.
  • Key Provisions:-
    • The S-400, acquired from Russia and referred to as Sudarshan Chakra in India, is one of the most advanced long-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems in the world. It features a sophisticated command-and-control setup, phased array radar, and electronic warfare countermeasures, providing 360-degree coverage. Known for its multi-missile capability, the S-400 allows for layered air defence by simultaneously tracking and engaging multiple targets. It can monitor aerial threats up to 600 km away and intercept them at ranges of up to 400 km. The system is effective at altitudes ranging from 30 meters to 30 km and can achieve speeds of around Mach 13–14. Establishing an MRO unit in India will boost operational readiness and reduce dependence on foreign support.

  • Why in News?
    • Governor’s Rule has been enforced in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) of Mizoram, which operates under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
  • Key Provisions:-
    • Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) are special administrative bodies established to provide self-governance in tribal-majority areas of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram. Their primary aim is to safeguard tribal identity, culture, and customs while promoting local development.
    • ADCs are empowered to legislate on key issues such as land use, forest management, inheritance, social practices, and more.
    • They also oversee essential services like education, public health, and local infrastructure.
    • Additionally, they can set up Council Courts to resolve disputes in accordance with tribal customs and traditions. Structurally, most ADCs consist of up to 30 members, with a maximum of four nominated by the Governor. The imposition of Governor’s Rule in CADC reflects administrative intervention in the wake of governance challenges, while still respecting the constitutional framework for tribal autonomy.
