- Why in News?
- Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) completes 5 years.
- Key Provisions:-
- The Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) was launched on 10 September 2020 by the Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying for five years (2020–21 to 2024–25) and has now been extended to 2025–26.
- The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) acts as the nodal agency for training, awareness, and capacity-building programmes. Designed as an umbrella initiative, PMMSY includes both Central Sector and Centrally Sponsored Components. India has become the second-largest fish producer globally, accounting for around 8% of total output, while the scheme has generated nearly 58 lakh livelihoods and empowered over 99,000 women.
- Its major strategies include financial support of up to 60% for women-oriented fisheries projects, development of 100 Climate Resilient Coastal Fishermen Villages, and wider adoption of sustainable technologies like Biofloc and Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems.
- Additionally, the PM-MKSSY and National Fisheries Digital Platform enhance sector formalization and streamline access to benefits.
- Why in News?
- India has inaugurated its first overseas Atal Innovation Centre (AIC) at the IIT Delhi–Abu Dhabi campus in the UAE, marking a significant step in expanding India’s global innovation footprint.
- Key Provisions:-
- The centre has been established under the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), the Government of India’s flagship initiative spearheaded by NITI Aayog. AIM seeks to build a strong ecosystem that nurtures creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurship across different sectors. Its key programmes include Atal Tinkering Labs, which encourage students from classes 6 to 12 to explore STEM and innovation through hands-on projects; Atal Incubation Centres, set up in universities, research institutions, and corporates to mentor startups and promote entrepreneurial ventures; and the ARISE–ANIC programme, aimed at strengthening innovation capacity in MSMEs and startups through funding and partnerships. The launch of the overseas AIC highlights AIM’s efforts to create cross-border collaboration, strengthen India’s knowledge economy, and showcase its innovation leadership globally.
- Why in News?
- The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has introduced the beta version of “Adi Sanskriti”, envisioned as the world’s first digital learning platform dedicated to tribal artforms.
- Key Provisions:-
- It aims to preserve, promote, and provide global access to India’s rich tribal heritage. The platform consists of three major components.
- Adi Vishwavidyalaya, a digital tribal art academy, currently hosts 45 interactive courses on traditional dance, painting, crafts, music, and folklore, enabling immersive learning.
- Adi Sampada, a socio-cultural repository, offers a curated digital collection of over 5,000 documents across themes such as textiles, artefacts, dance, painting, and livelihood practices, serving as a knowledge hub for researchers and enthusiasts.
- The third component, Adi Haat, is an evolving e-marketplace integrated with TRIFED, which will expand into a dedicated platform for tribal artisans to directly connect with consumers, ensuring sustainable income generation.
- Together, these initiatives strengthen cultural preservation while fostering opportunities for empowerment and economic growth.
