  • North Korea recently announced the successful test launch of its newest intercontinental ballistic missile, the Hwasong-19.
  • About the Hwasong-19:
    • The Hwasong-19 is an advanced North Korean intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
    • As the most recent addition to the Hwasong missile series, it features solid-fuel propulsion, which allows for quicker deployment compared to liquid-fueled missiles, making it more difficult to detect and intercept.
    • The missile is believed to be at least 28 meters (92 feet) in length, significantly longer than many advanced ICBMs from the U.S. and Russia, which are typically under 20 meters (66 feet).
    • Analysts predict that, if launched on a standard trajectory, the Hwasong-19 could reach distances greater than 13,000 kilometers, sufficient to strike targets on the U.S. mainland.

  • India, represented by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), has been inducted into the Steering Committee of the Asset Recovery Interagency Network-Asia Pacific (ARIN-AP).
  • About the Asset Recovery Interagency Network–Asia Pacific (ARIN-AP):
    • ARIN-AP is a key multi-agency network focused on combating crime proceeds in the Asia-Pacific region.
    • The network was created to promote cross-border cooperation on asset tracing, freezing, and confiscation.
    • ARIN-AP's goal is to enhance the effectiveness of its members in depriving criminals of their illicit gains by serving as a central hub for professionals working on crime proceeds issues.
    • The network comprises 28 member jurisdictions and nine observers, functioning as an informal yet robust framework within the larger CARIN (Camden Asset Recovery Inter-Agency Network).
    • ARIN-AP facilitates communication and intelligence sharing through a network of contact points, allowing for effective collaboration among member agencies and over 100 jurisdictions within the CARIN Network.
    • The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) is India's lead agency within this network.
    • Law enforcement agencies in ARIN-AP and CARIN jurisdictions benefit from this framework, as it helps trace both movable and immovable assets tied to criminal activities across borders.
    • By leveraging ARIN-AP and the broader CARIN Network, agencies can exchange valuable information on individuals, assets, and entities involved in crime, speeding up the identification and recovery of illicit proceeds.
